MEET MAYOR SMITH

Brandon Smith has proudly served as Mayor of Greenwood for the past eight years, bringing steady, professional leadership and a deep commitment to the community he and his family call home.

As mayor, Brandon has worked to strengthen Greenwood through investments in public safety, parks and public spaces, stronger neighborhoods, city services, and the next generation. He launched the Mayor’s Youth Council to give local students a voice in Greenwood’s future and advocated for Springfield Elementary to be renamed in honor of Greenwood County native Dr. Benjamin E. Mays. Brandon was later honored with the Mays Legacy Award.

A lawyer and certified mediator, Brandon previously served as general counsel for GMI, the parent company of Greenwood Mills and Greenwood Communities and Resorts. He is a graduate of Leadership South Carolina and the Riley Mayors’ Design Fellowship and currently serves as Vice President of the Municipal Association of South Carolina and the Upper Savannah Council of Governments.

Brandon believes serving as mayor means being accessible, listening to residents, building strong partnerships, and representing Greenwood well at home and across South Carolina.

Brandon and his wife, Tara, have raised their three sons in Greenwood. When he’s not working or serving the city, Brandon enjoys spending time with his family and playing music with his sons in their family band, Surrender Cobra.

After eight years as mayor, Brandon remains as committed to Greenwood as ever and is ready to continue that service, build on the progress they’ve made, and keep Greenwood moving forward.
